What is a pre-tariff Sift?
A pre-tariff sift is a review prior to the end of an offenders tariff , this applies to only those sentences where someone has been sent to prison for a discretionary sentence subject to an overall tariff before the parole board can consider them for release.
This is an opportunity to assess where that person is in respect of their overall sentence targets and what they need to do to put themselves in a good place to make an application for release by the Parole Board.
You should always make representations at this stage.
