What is a pre-tariff Sift ?
A pre-tariff sift is a review prior to the end of an offenders tariff , this applies to only those sentences where someone has been sent to prison for a discretionary sentence subject to an overall tariff before the parole board can consider them for release .
This is an opportunity to assess where that person is in respect of their overall sentence targets and what they need to do to put themselves in a good place to make an application for release by the Parole Board .
You should always make representations at this stage .
